Video: Non-destructive testing of a vacuum chamber

The ECHOPLUS has completed work on automated ultrasonic inspection of austenitic welded joints of the vacuum chamber of the upper and equatorial ITER test stand, commissioned by NPO GKMP LLC. The work was carried out jointly with the customer's specialists. 

Ultrasonic inspection of all vacuum tight welded joints of the vacuum chamber with thicknesses from 8 to 300 mm was carried out.

To carry out the control, the "Procedure for ultrasonic inspection of welded joints made of stainless steels of the ITER port plug test stand" was developed and coordinated with the ITER organization, and the necessary equipment was developed and manufactured, including:

  • Multi-channel ultrasonic flaw detector
  • A set of scanning devices and tracks
  • A set of multi-element piezoelectric converters
  • Contact fluid supply system
